Ed Jopeck — President of SARMA — Keynote Speech

Ed Jopeck started off the conference with his keynote speech introducing SARMA to the crowd and also showing off us SRA Club members. Caroline told me that we were going to be introduced to the Conference by Mr. Jopeck, but I never expected the introduction he gave us. He said that they, as security professionals, needed to document their work and collaborate more so that they can pass it down to the future of the field, us. I was very flattered by his remarks about us and hope to work hard and live up the hype he provided us. He was very adamant that students like us will carry the field to new heights and seemed to be generally interested in our personal success. I would like to thank Mr. Jopeck for his kind statement and I will post more about SARMA as this conference progresses and after I join officially.

SARMA: In the Beginning

On April 26, 2006, SARMA was created and run with volunteers interested in filling a void in the security community. They wanted to integrate Risk Analysts and their methodologies to educate future Security Professionals and collaborate with current ones. They wanted to support the need of an institution of Risk Based Programs. They also have 1500 subscribers to their newsletter and their goal is to make progress where no one else is making it. He finished with stating that they wanted to push a National Strategy of Security Risk Management.

Relevance

This entire organization is relevant to our major. I mean, just look at the website or this post and you have to be familiar with the terminology. I am very excited to see our future with SARMA and I’m sure that every student will benefit from their seemingly never ending knowledge in the field we are learning and love.
