The Trial of Salim Hamdan
In preparation for the move to a personal web page. My friend Ali and I have been working on a few interactive timelines. I started with the Israel Iran timeline which is “under construnction” at the current moment and now we move onto the next in our series of timelines focused on presenting up to date news to you in a new fashion to keep all my readers updated on current events.
Some of you may know who Salim Hamdan is, some of you may not. So I will give you a quick summary and let the timeline do the rest of the talking. Mr. Hamdan was the driver of Osama bin Laden before he was captured and sent to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He is now being tried in the first war crime trial since WWII and the proceedings are making headlines across the globe. As the hearing began, Salim Hamdan laid out his life in Guantanamo in a never before seen inside look at the “prison.” Throughout the trial, he has been called a torturee, mental patient, primitive chauffeur, bin Laden follower, and a terrorist. Khalid Sheik Mohammed, the alleged mastermind of 9/11 called Hamdan a simple mechanic who was not “fit” for terrorist duties, but it is well-known that Hamdan knew of 9/11. Salim also helped the US by giving information about terror networks, supposedly under torture.
Regardless of the outcome, which is expected soon, this trial will go down in history. The look inside Guantanamo, the surfacing of more torture allegations, War-Crimes, and 9/11 suspects are all new and intriguing in the eyes of those against terrorism everywhere. I hope you enjoy this timeline, and please comment if you have any updates/ideas on making this better.
